Did You Know: ...that there's a passage in James Newton Howard's score for Unbreakable that uses the exact same melody as Bjork's "All Is Full Of Love"? I'll bet you didn't, but it's true, I tell you! On a related note, I think that, if it came down to it, Bjork could take down Bruce Willis' Superdude character. Icelandic ninja skillz and a sonic death cry vs. mere unlimited strength and a fear of water? No match. Advantage: Gudmundsdottir! 11.23.2002
Well, the Canadians said it, so it must be true. Bush not 'a moron' I can't blame Canada for wanting to stay on W.'s good side, though. He's got a huge chunk of the world behind him right now... and I hope he's doing his best. I hope the safety of our nation and the free world are his priorities instead of the advancement of the oil and gas industries. I want to think he's like Phil Hartman's Reagan on "SNL"; he played the friendly buffoon for the reporters and visiting girl scouts, then switched to deadly serious when the cameras were gone. We can hope this, but I fear that in truth, 'dumb' + 'big oil money' are larger factors than most want to admit. (Not that this is anything new... I'm just rambling, inspired by the Canuck's quote.) Ahh, it's that subtle change of season when...oh wait, it wasn't subtle! Suddenly, winter winds are blowin' in like we're sitting right between The Lord's A/C unit and some kind of top secret Area 51 UFO-testin' wind tunnel! I'm on the 2nd floor, and sometimes it's so windy it sounds like I'd see a witch on a bicycle if I peeked through the blinds. So yes, the chilliness has officially arrived. Where the female companionship at?
Let's test something: Hmm...where would one find information on the Adaptive Golf Foundation of Atlanta? (It's for a good cause...throw me a click, people.) (and yes, I realize the site isn't there yet.) 11.19.2002
Mmmm... Bacon... Well, apparently, one can find their way here by searching for "Bacon scale ratings". I'm pleased to see that my opinions on bacon are so widely-known and respected. Verily, I shall continue to provide the finest in bacon-related news and opinions for my readers across the globe. Up next: Canadian Bacon: Is It Really Bacon? 11.18.2002
Yes I Have "But then I was thinking that maybe smoothies aren't that good for you. Have you ever thought of that, that smoothies are nature's cancer?" - Owen Wilson in Premiere
In honor of Sammy Hagar having a new album out, I'd like to take a moment to remind my readers that no matter how cool you may think your new CD cover art is, it will never beat this: ![]() ...so don't even try. 11.17.2002
Mmm... nothing like a double dose of "Alias" to end/start the week properly. I'd held off on watching my tape from last weekend until tonight, so I got double the espionage 'n' hotness. Again, Mr. Abrams shows some good taste in music and throws in a slice of Peter Gabriel... it was a nice touch. Interesting developments in the past 3 episodes. Though I'm lovin' the "24" more and more, "Alias" can still hold its own. I must note that Sydney makes the least convincing Geisha girl ever, but I won't hold that against her. Anyone else out there watching this show? Unfortunately, it tends to lose in the ratings, despite its coolness... 11.16.2002
KIKKOMAN - His fish head is disturbing, but his theme song is dramatic! OHH!? UPDATE: Travis found this translation of the Kikkoman Theme Song lyrics. Everything should make COMPLETE sense now. 11.15.2002
GAHH!!! Someone @ CHUD.com reports: "Once Upon A Time In Mexico has been pulled from its March 28, 2003 release date and moved to an unspecified date in the fall of 2003." [profanity][frustration]@#%%@#$^!!![/frustration][/profanity] (OUATIM being the 3rd movie in Robert Rodriguez' Mariachi series... an effort that I can't wait to see.) On a brighter note, big props to Kyle from Texas A&M representing KANM on Jeopardy tonight! [ link ]
Few things get the blood pumping like this afternoon's Hot Track: Cee-Lo - "Live (Right Now)" A finer mix of hot guitar licks, thumping hiphop production and cool-sounding vocals you will not easily find. Give it a listen. In your Bentley. "Yes suh! Yes suh! (right now!) I said LIVE!" - Cee-Lo (that's 'live' like Stephen Tyler's hot daughter... not 'live' like the band with that bald guy.) 11.14.2002

Open Letter To China: Dear China, What is it going to take for you to figure out that Communism doesn't work right? You're a huge country with millions of people, hundreds of thousands of which are probably geniuses or brilliant artists, yet you're 20 years behind first-world nations in many respects. Come on, China... didn't you read Animal Farm? The apples and milk are going somewhere, and I'm betting on the fat piggies in the farmhouse.
Suge Knight needs to be put back in jail... just for being a punk in general. At least his record company is being investigated. There was a pretty good charicature of Knight on "RHD" a couple of weeks ago; violent, short-tempered, stupid, disrespectful of others, etc. Man, that kind of Puffy-esque shadiness + fame just ticks me off. Meanwhile, cool people with actual talent go unnoticed. Oh, and take note that they mention Jay's death at the end of that CNN article for no good reason. NOT CONNECTED. GIVE IT UP. Farm Fact #239 :: Roosters don't stop crowin' at dawn. They're good to go all day long. Farm Fact #851 :: Curious Dachshund + glue trap behind fridge = abrupt and unpleasant end to morning slumber. Quote Of The Day: "I don't have a license and I left my passport at home," Brown told an officer according to a police report. "I don't have one, but I'm Bobby Brown." - Bobby Brown, this morning in Atlanta Yes you are, Bobby... yes you are. Where's Chris Rock when you need him, eh? 11.6.2002
ROCK ON, BMW. The 3rd and final entry in the new BMWFilms series stars JAMES BROWN, GARY OLDMAN and DANNY TREJO! The 2nd one (with Don Cheadle) comes out tomorrow, though. I think the 3rd one arrives on the 21st. If you haven't checked out the John Woo film yet, go there now! Update: The 2nd new film, "Ticker", is spank-tastic. Watch it NOW. Many cool cameos, and some high-speed mountain road drivin'. Great little plot, too.
I've enjoyed these two finds of the past 24 hours: [ Skydaddy ] - Check out 'favorite things' and 'crazy labels'. [ mimi smartypants ] - She's clever. NP :: DJ Shadow/Blackalicious - "Halfway Home" (live) 11.5.2002
I had a dream that I was sitting around in some top-secret hotel suite with a bunch of young stars from mediocre movies. I think it was a weekend where everyone was in town for a flurry of press junkets, and all the movies these kids were promoting were lackluster efforts of the Texas Rangers / Abandon variety. We were talking about why their halfassed movie efforts weren't doing very well, and eventually began discussing how beautiful a movie HEAT is. I think there may have been an older actor there who brought this up. Little fuzzy here. At one point in the dream, I was running around the hotel in my draws, and I had to get back into the secret suite via a strange secret blue door that was plastic and had many layers. The last layer only opened in a little 1/4-sized door, so I had to squeeze in sideways. I think Michelle Rodriguez was there, and maybe that guy... from that one movie. I have no idea what all this means. Maybe the gist is that I would like to watch HEAT with Michelle Rodriguez (perhaps in my draws)... or maybe I just had too much candy last night. Someone hire me, please. This kind of brainpower doesn't need to go to waste.
For the record, this evening's Hot Track is "Who Is He (And What Is He To You?)" by Bill Withers. (The beat of which was sped up and sampled for LL Cool J's "Doin' It" a few years ago.) 11.4.2002
First Impression I just gave Metroid Fusion a spin on the trusty emulator, and oh baby, that's some old-school goodness! I had a lot of fun in the 10 minutes or so I played. Definitely recommended for fans of the original who own a Game Boy Advance. You'll be amazed at how much cooler this episode looks when compared to the NES original. Nice, smooth animations, and super-snazzy cut scenes. This will definitely be worth the price of purchase on 11/18. So sayeth the $nowman! (Not sure if there's a secret bikini code in this one yet...)
I attempted to pick up another self-assigned Merit Badge for Grilling tonight... my first experience with Fish + Fire. Not as good as the grilled fish sammich at Outback, but still pretty tasty. Next time, I should try to find a thinner piece with a more uniform thickness, if such a thing exists. Fish aren't usually so considerate as to flatten themselves when growing... so I may just have to 'learn' or 'acquire more skills' to get better at this. We'll see... 11.3.2002
Surely the "I'm a Ford Truck Man!" commercial must be the worst of all Ford commercials ever. I'd rather hear Bill Ford talk for 2 full minutes than hear that wanker sing for 30 seconds.
Freakin' Awesome Well, this does something to improve my mood: Following on the heels of young fans of FOX's "The Simpsons," being able to collect all 10 Treehouse of Horror-inspired toys in Big Kids and Kids Meals, Burger King is giving the Whopper a makeover a la Homer. As of Friday (Nov. 1), those in search of a heart attack wrapped in tissue paper can get the Homer Simpson X-treme Bacon & Cheese Whopper consisting of a burger piled with four-and-a-half strips of bacon, two slices of American cheese and one slice of smoked cheddar cheese. Sweet Aunt Jamima, that sounds tasty! BK is finally stepping up to the plate and firing something at us that can compete with the Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger or the Triple Ultimate Cheeseburger at Jack In The Box. Limited time only... get your cholesterol in while you can!
GvsE It's my mom's birthday, and I took her out for lunch at Greenwood's. Oh buddy buddy buddy, that's some good eatin'. Shrimp & cheese grits, pot roast with mashed taters and creamed corn, cornbread muffins. Deee-licious, all. And then, there was pie. The coconut worked fine for mi madre, but we both decided that the cherry pie I got was the champion. 3 kinds of cherries, some of the best crust EVER and sporting a towering side of homemade vanilla ice cream -- it was a work of fattening art. So that was cool. But then I got an email that said 'no job for you,' and that pretty much sucked. So that's the day so far. At least there's a new Simpsons episode tonight. That should provide a nice Peak > Valley > Peak structure for the day's emotions. Maybe I can level the whole thing out with some well-timed cupcakes and a showing of Grave of the Fireflies... 11.2.2002
