Arg! Brain hurt! *clutches skull to keep it from exploding*

Why? WHY? Do people deprive themselves of oxygen for a while each morning to get this stupid? [ link via Metafilter ]

Do you know where the nearest digital projection theater is? Find out here.

4.29.2002
I have a real post in the works, but first, MAX HEADROOM IS COMING ON AGAIN.

4.27.2002
I definitely dreamt about being Spider-Man last night. The Green Goblin was one evil mofo. Something about kidnapping kids, I think. I believe there might have been another dream involving The Hulk. It was just a comic book kinda night, I guess. Why do I remember my dreams more often when I sleep on the couch in the office? Maybe it has something with how deep I go into some phase of sleep...or not.

My birthday present copy of Tombstone: VISTA Series finally got a proper watching over at the Gunderground last night. Still a super fun movie. A couple of nice additions to the Director's Cut. Others were less interesting. Anything that gives Doc more smartass lines is a good thing, though.

Spike Jonze gets recognized for his pure awesomeness. [ link ]

I appreciate him topping the charts, but I think Sabotage was a cooler clip than Weapon of Choice. I think. Tough call, though. He's just pure genius any way you look at it.

"I didn't join the Army to pull things out of people's asses!" - Spike in Three Kings

AWESOME new poster for Spy Kids 2. [ link via Aint-it-fat-news ]

Well, I think I'm allowed to report it publicly now... I no longer have a j.o.b.

I did, however, just get back from an amazing Blackalicious concert. MARTA down to CNN Center, and a quick walk over to The Cotton Club/Tabernacle and I was there.

There's no way I'm gonna relate this whole story now. Here: "Rode train, saw show, yelled, waved hands, got free posters, bought shirt, left early, rode train, saw crackhead or something like one, got home late... want sleep now."

That's the ticket. SLEEP!

...and happy (3 hours late) birthday, Ashley!

...still in the dark. Sigur Ros time now. Amazing music, blog reading and The Onion. No TV tonight.

Jeebus, this has been one long ... day. Really pushing to get some stuff finished up at work for a client demo tomorrow. It should go fairly smoothly. I could have done without the 'missing Andy Richter and 24' part of the plan, however... I'll see them at some point. If all else fails, I'll download them like the unstoppable geek that I am.

So anyway, I've had my peanut butter sammich and apple, and I'm enjoying the dark and some new Cinematic Orchestra. Not much will to get any exercise. Maybe if I try really hard I can teach myself to do crunches and pushups and butt-squeezes in my sleep. I would be one buffed up, lazy mofo if that were the case.

Why does it have to be 11pm already? Where's that Flux Capacitor delivery girl? I gots a time machine to build.

Car successfully delivered me to work this morning. I don't think I can really expect too much more than that these days.

I fell asleep to Almost Famous last night, then had a super funny dream about living in some sort of Andy Richter Controls The Universe/Office Space-esque workplace comedy. I'd relay more details if I remembered them... maybe later.

4.22.2002
Okay, I've done what I had to get done for the day. I'm not quitting right away... I'm just sayin'... I can sleep comfortably tonight and not worry about being roasted over an open flame or something tomorrow.

*relief*

I sure wish there'd be enough sunlight for me to play some more Castlevania outside when I get home...but work has overtaken afternoon video game time this day. Sweet Playstation... bring on the lovin'.

4.20.2002
Well this is no fun... it looks like Layne Staley of Alice In Chains might have finally put himself in the grave with his constant drug abuse. Damn it, Layne... AIC was one of the coolest bands around. Drugs are bad, mmmkay? [ link ] Kids, leave the god smack alone... the band AND the drug.

I never got to see the whole band perform, unfortunately... but the Jerry Cantrell concert I caught last year was probably about as good a substitute as anyone could ask for. Really great show that made me realize how big a part Jerry had played in the music of AIC. At least, in investigating this story, I see that Jerry has a new album coming out on June 18th. Anything involving members of both AIC and Faith No More is a winner in my ears.

Sweet...they're coming to the ATL in June.
[ tour dates ] ... with Nickelback... *shudder*

now playing :: Lamb - "Feela"

The commentary track on the Bound DVD is one of the livelier ones I've heard. The Wachowskis + Jennifer Tilly + Gina Gershon + The film's ditor + Joey Pants = a party. Definitely worth checking out... especially when the disc can be had for under $10 at DDD.

"Termite farts are believed to be a major contributor towards global warming." [ link ]

I tell you what...

I'm no Hank Hill. My attempts to begin the yearly lawn maintenance cycle this evening were in vain. Yes, I know I'm late getting started... I accept that. In a perfect world, that would mean that the lawnmower would have had plenty of hibernation time and that it would be rarin' to get out there and eat up some bermuda. This was not the case.
*pull* *silence* ... *pull* *sputter* ... *pull* *SPUTTER SPUTTER* *silence* ... *check spark plug connection again* ... *PULL* *SPUTTER SPUTTER SPUTTER quiet mechanical laughter SPUTTER* *silence*

*go ride bike*

Yeah...you come up with a better solution, you let me know.

now playing :: Jackie Brown Soundtrack > The Brothers Johnson - "Strawberry Letter 23"

Zowie...I guess I need one of these. (tiny computer) Then I could go over to someone's house, wrangle up a loose network connection (in my world, all homes have network connections), find my way into the OS of their...oh, I dunno, home entertainment system, and make it play nothing but the Mighty Ducks movies for a fortnight.

Beautiful day/evening. I rode my bike tonight, then felt justified in coming back to the house to get my lazy on. Who's gonna argue? Tired now.

now playing :: Foxy Brown - (Holy Matrimony) Letter To The Firm

4.17.2002
Ugh... Papa Roach is covering "Sweet Emotion" on this mtvICON special about Aerosmith. This is the worst thing ever. It is physically painful to have to watch Aerosmith try to offer up a polite head-bob to this rendition.

4.16.2002
It seems to be official. Sammy Hagar/David Lee Roth Tour 2002! This CNN article is a pretty good read... but here's the best bit of the whole thing:
The flashy Roth, dressed in black nylon trousers and shirt, was accompanied by three bodyguards, three masked catwomen in fluorescent unitards and a beer-drinking midget sporting an Andy Warhol wig. Hagar turned up solo in jeans and T-shirt.
God Bless America... I love these guys. Can't wait for this one... though it looks like they're not coming to Atlanta. C'mon guys...throw me a bone here. (not that I'm opposed to visiting Texas)

Covers rule. See which songs your favorite band has covered, and fill in the blanks where info is missing.

Man, what's up with Time Warner Cable? Is this another key part of AOL's "We Must Suck More Than Any Other Entity" plan? [ link ]

Fire Emblem for the Game Boy Advance coming soon. Thank you, Video Game Jesus. This one is gonna be SWEET.

4.15.2002
If you're like me, you've probably always thought of cinnamon as a friend. A confidant. A wisened old grandfather of the spicerack. Key ingredient of CinnaBons, snickerdoodles and Big Red. You thought wrong. The Cinnamon wants to destroy you, and you cannot defeat The Cinnamon! Cinnamon Challenge 2001

I *heart* streaming media and modem users.

"Come on, Corky, give that sweet saddle a rattle!" - Brak's Poppy's nose

Painful comedy. [ link ]

LATE. Night on the town results in late nite and a visit to the Krispy Kreme on Ponce. Before that, however, was my first visit to MJQ. Very dark club, that. Much of the crowd reminded me of Enid and Rebecca from Ghost World, but drunker, and surrounded by smoke and British rock music.

Anyway, I've had the experience, and now I'm home watching Caddyshack at 3am. Life is good.

4.13.2002
Beware the cupholders! From the mixed-up files of Mr. Stick Figure E. Warningmanweiler.

Geez...elaborate, unsuccessful bank robbery, anyone? At least he gets points for creativity.

Speaking of The Jerry Reed, he is playing here, in the town in which I live, on August 17. This is obviously a sign from God or Jesus or perhaps the late Jackie Gleason. I must attend this show. East Bound and Down, live and loud! It is my density.

4.12.2002
Bawitaba, indeed! You go, Bob Ritchie.

Jerry Reed would be jealous of this bad boy. [ link to Kenworth uber-semi ]

...and because, as Travis points out, this vehicle could be a worthy opponent to Knight Rider, I present to you some information on the original supersemi, Goliath from Knight Rider (this Knight Rider FAQ is pretty amazing. I would have sold off prized possessions for this information at age 9)

Do you know what boxty is? After today's lunch I do, and it's pretty tasty in quesadilla form.

It's still raining, but the lethargy has faded. What's up wit'choo today?

The whole debate over whether or not to keep making pennies is just a big stealth political battle between the copper industry and the zinc industry. [ link ] I uh... just think they smell kinda funny.

And Colonel Sanders puts an addictive chemical in his chicken that makes you crave it fortnightly... smmmmartass!

4.11.2002
Kind of a long day.
Maybe I should go to the comic book store.

Or not.
*lethargy*

Someone out there who knows me, please tell me something wonderful and exciting. Preferably something wonderful and exciting involving me, Sheryl Crow, an overturned Mellow Mushroom Pizza delivery truck and a shopping spree at bootleg electronics warehouse...

HA! This Mellow Mushroom cartoon is better than I would have expected...

Area:Two is in the works for this summer. I've been wondering who Moby would coax into performing this year. So far, it looks like David Bowie and Busta Rhymes, and I'm ALL ABOUT THAT.

Oh, and you should all be watching Senor Moby's House of Music on MTV (and perhaps MTV2?)

4.10.2002
I continue to warm up to this new album by ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead -- Source Tags and Codes. More details on that later, perhaps. For now, let it be said that it's an impressive string of rockers bound together by a glue of creepy evil-carnival interludes. Windows-down is a requirement for car listening... this guy's voice can be a bit much in closed spaces.

4.9.2002
Ahhh...Tuesday night... such a sweet, sweet dose of that TV lovin'. That 70s Show > Andy Richter Controls the Universe > 24 > The Sweet Spot > The Osbournes > The Daily Show >> OH YEAH!

Now, if I could just get this contact to dislodge from my inner eyelid, I'd be sittin' on easy street.

now playing :: "Hjartad Hamast" by Sigur Ros

This song is amazing. Find yourself some Sigur Ros to listen to and see what you think.

4.8.2002
My 2nd major toe injury within 2 weeks just occurred. Smacked the pantry door up against my big toe REAL good. The nail loosened up nicely. Mmm...focus...find your power-toe-animal. Visit your power-toe-cave. Work through the toe-pain.

Someone's conspiring to keep me from ever comfortably running again. I just hope that someone isn't me.

Maybe my bike's getting jealous and coordinating these viscious assaults. Bikes are sneaky.

4.7.2002
This girl has a PANTSCAM! Don't we all?

Nothin' like successfully shelling a Reese's Piece in your mouth to make you feel like a winner.

...and in case you didn't know, the suggested serving size of Reese's Pieces is 50...pieces. Sounds a bit high to me, but I haven't been counting.

I hope you all take a little bit of time now and again to worship at the church of Johnny Cash. The man is just one of the greatest talents in American music...ever. This special that Bravo is airing is a great tribute. Check it out if you get a chance.

A time machine is in the works. Let's just try to keep it out of the hands of anyone named Tannen, eh?

Yeah, I know it's crazy late. Blame the time change.

Dina's surprise party was actually successful! She didn't even notice the string of friends' cars parked up her street. Go Tor, with the stealth preparations! I met a few of their friends I hadn't met before. Some fun folk.

Okay, I may be a bit...ungracious in some of my email replies to people who I feel aren't utilizing their brains to the greatest capacity, but I've never unleashed anything like this load of textual napalm from Ed.

Consumer Reports' new '02 car issue has told me specifically NOT to buy a '01 Dodge Intrepid. Who am I to call the leading consumer information compendium in the nation a liar and a fool? Back to the drawing board... or to the new car dealer? The Altima looks more and more appealing when I consider the supposed 'best bets' in the used car arena. Most of them simply don't interest me.

Does anyone have a '02 Altima 3.5 SE they want to sell me for a few thousand under invoice?

I must say, Undercover Brother looks pretty flippin' funny.

In regard to Donnie Darko, I thought it was a cool movie. Very funny at times. Somewhat creepy at others. Creatively shot and unusual throughout. I should have given myself more time to re-watch with the commentary, and to check out the supplementals. I think I might have gotten more out of it that way. As it stands, I don't think I quite got it.

best.drive.ever. Too bad it feels like my transmission's getting wobbly again. Why can't all machines just function perfectly for all time? I mean, sure that might bring about a premature apocalypse via a terrible robot invasion with the lasers and the biting and the crushing... but uh... hey, at least my car wouldn't break down any more.

Ooh baby you want me? Free lapdance. No contact required. [ link ]

It's springtime, and my hatred for McDonald's is blossoming anew. Their new TV spot opens with the sudden, unavoidable assault of that horrible, horrible Spice Girls song that launched their invasion of the US. (it could have been the 2nd single...I try not to cement these things too firmly in my mind) So, not only do they refuse to elevate their food to a level higher than 'mediocre', they've reached a new low in televised advertising. I knew that clown was up to no good.

4.4.2002
I've rented Donnie Darko for the evening. I'll report in with my opinion after a while. I'm expecting giant-rabbit-powered lunacy. (of the dark, murkily-lit variety)

SO HUNGRY. Someone save me.

At last, I have identified the culprit in the slow death of Saturday morning cartoons...
But the salad days ended in 1990, when Congress passed the Children's Television Act. Saturday morning cartoons were attacked as "junk food for the mind," and television stations were required to run a minimum amount of educational programming, and report on the content of their children's programming to the federal government.

4.3.2002
Oh baby... this new Blackalicious album is gonna rock all your lame asses (like Hagfish).

Please go buy the CD when it comes out at the end of the month.

"Hit you with the funk...It's like, who cut the provelone?"

This sidebar from The Onion has had me laughing since mid-morning:

Southerner Either Looking For 'Pawn Shop' Or 'Porn Shop'

Alright...one more go at this. Please pretend, for the benefit of this post and its author, that the following was written last night. Thank you. - The Mgmt.

I'm back home safely. Ash and I made it from Holcomb to Memphis (after rectifying the 'oil-less' status of her car) and enjoyed a fine meal of Backyard Burgers before I took to the air. The Graceland airport was a relatively cavity-search-free experience. One plane, two trains and a Bonneville ride later, and I was back here in the ol' chair, catching up on all of the really important sitting that I missed out on over the weekend.

The Easter Bunny awarded me with a copy of The Patriot on DVD. After I found away around the BASTARD RCE PROTECTION that keeps me from playing a Region 1 DVD on a Region 1 player (?!?!?), I was able to get past the menus and actually watch the movie. Pretty cool. Not Mel's best, in my opinion, but a good war movie. I really can't believe that Mel did that movie within a few months of doing a certain Simpsons episode featuring a similar scene. That was ALL I could think about during a climactic moment in the movie. Added entertainment value, I suppose.

Right. I'll go sleep now.
now playing :: KLF - Chill Out

4.2.2002
There would have been a new post here this morning, but Blogger ate it last night when I clicked Publish. Sorry... I even kind of liked the post. I'll try to clone it later on.

Work now.

4.1.2002
Back to the grind. Did I mention I'm a Hare Krishna now? Yep... they got me in the airport last night.
