Gray - The Blog

The Blog = Pointless Prose Presented Posthaste : COMMENTS = LOVE

9.30.2001
Alias is one of the cooler shows I've seen on TV lately. How can yo go wrong with a cute, redheaded grad-student kickass superspy? They even used a somewhat obscure Peter Gabriel song in the premiere. Bonus points to ABC for that one.

...and she just dressed up like Lola to sneak out of the country. OH YEAH!

The season premiere of Junkyard Wars was on tonight, after being delayed from, I believe, the 12th. They made monster trucks! Kids should be required to watch this show.

This page is a good read if you like to know what is and isn't coming to DVD in the near and not-so-near future. They have things broken down by studio, which means absolutely nothing to the average person.

Late night on the town. We saw The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the Echo Lounge. In a surprising turn of events, I had LESS hair than the rest of the crowd. And not in a 'because I'm bald' way, but in a 'because I'm not a damn hippie' way. Anyway, the opening act was pretty sweet. The Forty-Fives seem to be a hard-rockin' quartet from here in the ATL with some great songs under their belts. I especially enjoyed the tune that seemed to share some verses with Jim Dandy by Black Oak Arkansas. The middle band, Deadmoon, was not good. Let us never speak of them again.

Note to self: Never drive northbound on Peachtree late at night on a weekend. It is not a good thing. Not scary... just annoying. Gotta figure out the best way home. It took me most of an hour to make it to Pharr where I could jump over to Piedmont. New Eric Gales CD helped to pass the time.

New Blackalicious track called "Passion" featuring Dilated Peoples found on Audiogalaxy. Right on.

John K.'s new show, The Ripping Friends, is on TV now. You should watch it. The man created Ren & Stimpy...show some love!

Of course, I managed to nod off in the chair before I got a chance to pass out on the couch. Anyone know if TV's Frank was on that show? At least I'm up in time to see MST this morning....though they've moved it back an hour, I think. I guess that just leaves more time for pro-duck-tivity afterwards.

I think TV's Frank of MST3K fame is gonna be on NBC Late Friday in a few minutes. It'll be good to see the big guy again. That should free up my itinerary for some good ol' fashioned passin' out on the couch.

If any of you out there in Internetland enjoy the rock 'n' roll, you should immediately go here and download some live Ian Moore tracks. I recommend the "Live from Grant Street Dance Hall in Lafayette LA 09-01-2000" recording, in a single chunk for easy access. Send some email love to the webmaster over there if you like what you hear. He's a good guy.

And now, off to The Pit!

9.26.2001
I have seen Zoolander, and you haven't. For free, even. It was good fun, and I recommend it to fans of Stiller, Owen Wilson, Rob Schrab, laughter, 80s music used in humorous ways and BREAKDANCE FIGHTING. Props to CHUD for the free pass. Watch for the Kumar reference...and the shared line from HEAT.

Bruster's has a new flavor called Caramel Apple Crunch. Boy howdy, that's some tasty stuff.

I guess I'm not too exciting today. Any suggestions?

9.24.2001
Let all 4 of you bear witness to the fact that I'm awake, dressed, and enjoying some delicious Beastie Boys music videos for beakfast this morning. I should try this 'on time' thing more often. I'm the illest *garblegarble* from here to Gardenia!

9.23.2001
Gig'em, Ags My College Station-based cohort Michael pointed this out to me. It's good to see Kyle Field again. Red, white, blue and maroon! Whoop!

9.22.2001
After 4 years, I still can't stop listening to Endtroducing. DJ Shadow's turntable kung fu cannot be defeated.

9.21.2001
A few minutes ago, Jon Stewart was in tears on the Daily Show. He spoke about how the view from his apartment had changed...and that while the towers were gone... now his view was of the Statue of Liberty, and that that view was an unbeatable one.

It was really shocking to see Jon show that side of himself. Wow. Of course, they followed it up with the sublime futility of Chuck Doty's presidential campaign. AND, there's an excellently twangy new theme by TMBG. I love this show.

9.20.2001
I found a cheap, used copy of Best In Show (in great shape) at my trusty local non-Blockbuster video store on the way home. Not a bad way to end the day.

Also, this entertains me.

9.19.2001
Free dinner rules. I can now report that they make a mean catfish sammich at the Village Tavern...and the fries weren't bad, either. Wash it all down with a fine IBC Root Beer, and you're in bidness.

Note to world: Don't be like the (apparently) stupid bearded man in the GSO airport yesterday who had somehow missed all of the 619 mentions over the past week that you AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BRING KNIVES ON AIRPLANES ANYMORE. It only resulted in about a 10 or 15 minute delay for our return flight, and I suppose it was somewhat entertaining, but HOW does one avoid such an omnipresent message? Makes my head hurt. I have a hard enough time understanding how people will say they've never heard of some movie that's opening that day, after it's been getting saturation advertising for a month or so...but I acknowledge that I am the polar opposite of some people. I am....The Obscurity Sponge!

9.18.2001
Safe and sound and on the ground in sunny Greensboro, NC....as we have been for almost a full 24 hours now. It's very nice to visit finally, and I think we're all having a good time. The gang is great, and I think the whole deal is going to inspire us toward even greater...greatness. Also, they have traffic cams on TV. Snowman@Havok signing off. For now.

9.16.2001
A short break from packing. Who am I kidding...I'm watching Adult Swim and halfway finishing up the packing process. Oh well, it's just one backpack. Two-day trip to Greensboro tomorrow to meet up with our northern cohorts. Should be fun, and travel = Game Boy time. Heh...boy are my priorities screwy.

9.15.2001
There doesn't seem to be much of anything going on in Atlanta tonight, so I guess it's okay that I'm sitting here playing Advance Wars for hours at a time. I just lost a battle. It turned into a drawn-out affair where I was fighting tooth-and-nail against a very large army...producing new weapons when I could, but losing in the end. With all this military strategy in the palm of my hand, I can't help but wonder just what sort of presence the US might have in Afghanistan in a year or so. The Soviets fought there for over 10 years, and eventually turned tail and ran. Of course, we were aiding the natives at the time. Now who's trying to wipe us, the Evil Empire, from the face of the Earth? You guessed it...the same forces we trained to defeat The Evil Kommies in the 80s. Train Iraqis...go to war with them. Train Afghans...go to war with them. Maybe one day we'll figure the whole thing out, but for now, it seems like our history of black ops and sneakiness is gonna continue to come back and bite us on our portly asses repeatedly.

9.13.2001
I found the CD with my snapshots from my first and only visit to the World Trade Center last August.

9.12.2001
This is a somewhat chilling report.

There's new footage appearing left and right on CNN. Now we've seen the first plane hit, and a very clear shot of the 2nd plane cutting through the southern tower...I think that footage was taken from Battery Park. Lower Manhattan looks like it's afire from the TV. We were supposed to fly up to NC on Monday. I guess that might change.

This country isn't going to be the same ever again. I can't believe I was there a year ago, happily listening to the window washer ramble on about how many thousands of windows there were on the buildings, and how long it took to do each side. Admittedly, Lyza was right, and it cost way too much to take the tour....but now I'm glad I convinced her. (thanks for playing along, Lyza)

Not much else to say. This footage is crazy. And this is just freaky. Over and out. Wake me up when it's safe.

9.11.2001
Damn it...my country is being attacked and I can barely pull up the story. This is as evil an act as I've lived through, I think. I pray for all of those involved, and their families.

Now you can play X-Men vs. Street Fighter (online) from anywhere with a net connection. Oh BABY! SHO-RYU-KEN!

9.10.2001
It's 5:18 pm. Do you know where your Sonic is? Unfortunately, I DON'T. *grumble grumble*

9.8.2001
eBay item 1633430392 (Ends Sep-05-01 16:19:00 PDT ) - Time Machine; used, some rust. Man, this would have been a steal at $15.

9.7.2001
Bruster's has their Deep Dish Apple Pie flavor in season. Get it while you can. My dad loved the stuff. I had a scoop for him today, and it was excellent, as always.

The link colors on this page aren't really as they should be. CHANGE THEM.

Oops...I forgot to post this. Must spread the work of genius talents.... ROBOT BASTARD is an upcoming short film from Rob Schrab, the creator of SCUD: The Disposable Assassin (a highly entertaining comic book, the back issues of which you should all seek out...but not before I complete my collection).

Austin Powers 3: Goldmember! HA! In theaters July 26th, 2002. (Need the information...)

9.6.2001
Ohhhh boy, I think this is gonna be really cool. My plan is to bring XML into use behind this page, and hopefully set up some sort of sort for the 'Scale' blog...making it more of a searchable index of wicked-slickness. In theory, of course.

9.5.2001
Okay...only a few days late. Photos of DragonCon, taken over the course of the 2 days that Tor and I trekked through the funk and the freaks. click for fun.

Otherwise...nothing exciting. Somehow, a banana seems to have infected my Game Boy Advance with some sort of goo in the left shoulder button. It still works, but that's just the kind of thing that drives me batty. Damn you banana!

9.4.2001
An attempt to blog from work in the post-lunch lull. Really just a test, and to report the fact that Ray's New York Pizza continues to hold the title as Gray's Favorite Pizza. Good stuff every time...and there's a cool new waitress.

9.3.2001
Just how will this thing look when we get a few posts under its belt? We shall see soon enough...

Also, Adult Swim rocks most heartily indeed.

9.2.2001
Alright...this beyotch works now. DragonCon was good entertainment.
